Department of English & Media Studies
The Department of English and Media studies had its inception in the year 1989.The department strives to enrich the language and aesthetic knowledge of students. Academic programs like workshops, lectures, seminars, panel discussions, film screenings etc.are organized to hone the skills of the students..These activities are spread throughout the semester.
The department with the BA (Optional English, Communicative English and Journalism) brings out journals on a regular basis.
The college has the distinction OF been the only college in South Bangalore to offer a Vocational course with Optional English, Communicative English and Journalism as the combination.

Since 1989
Vijaya College, Jayanagar, erstwhile BHS First Grade College took its genesis in July 1989 under the BHS Managing Committee's(now BHS Higher Education Society) holistic awning. What ideated in 1988 germinated and took form in 1989 as BHS First Grade College.
The college motto 'Excellence in education' shines bright with the students' achievements in academics and extracurricular activities. With a humble inception, brick by brick the institution set out to add value to education and purpose to the courses offered.
